With decades worth of time, effort, blood, sweat and tears, it's easy for some coaches to sit back and legitimately look at their impact on their communities and the game itself. For Ole Miss GM of Operations Dom Martelli, he chooses to use his massive network to better today's players across the country.
In Episode 5, Dom walks us through networking, maximizing ID camps and getting better. There's a theme so far, if you haven't noticed. Grow your network. Grow your game. Grow yourself.
Hosted by award winning podcaster Robert Chapman, the Mississippi Soccer Channel was created to help broaden the network of players, coaches, parents and fans across the Magnolia State, shedding light on the quality local programs, competitive club teams, public and private school teams, and collegiate teams that span numerous associations.

When a coach inherits a pretty good program and takes it through a growth journey, they tend to end up being all the better for it. Hinds Community College Men's coach Robert Gardner did just that. He took a quality Hinds program and turned it into an institution of high expectations. Just Google his team’s performances over the past few years, you’ll see a steady rise in winning percentages as well as a consistency of guys going from Hinds to quality programs after their time as an Eagle.
In Episode 4, Coach Gardner discusses the growth mindset he has for his players as well as for himself. We never fully arrive, he says. It's all about continued growth.

Players are always influenced by their coaches, and some of those players turn into the coaches who then start the cycle all over again. One such coach is Jackson Academy's Phillip Buffington who has a storied playing career and an incredible influence inside the Mississippi Soccer circles (Seriously, almost everyone knows "Buff" as they call him).
In Episode 3, Phillip Buffington walks us through what he wishes every new coach would know and important it is to build relationships with players and their families. Without a relationship established, it's nearly impossible to be honest and transparent and just as impossible to grow.

Mississippi has a rich history when it comes to soccer. In this early episode, we talk with Dickens Fournet, a St. Joe and Mississippi State alum who took part in the state's first ever high school all star game.
Dickens is now a CPA with GranthamPoole in Ridgeland, Mississippi, but the beautiful game has taken him all over.
See more of what Dickens talked about at www.MississippiSoccerChannel.com.
